Émerise a un prénom peu commun. C’est son père qui le lui a donné parce que, dit-il, elle est spéciale comme un petit merisier. Un jour d’automne, la jeune fille part dans la forêt à la recherche de cet arbre qui lui ressemble. Quelle n’est pas sa déception de découvrir un arbre chétif, terne et dénudé ! Mais le printemps suivant, quand elle lui rend à nouveau visite, elle est émerveillée par ce qu’elle voit. Qu’est-il donc arrivé au merisier pour qu’il ait tant changé ?

Plus qu’une simple quête sur l’origine d’un prénom, cette histoire rappelle l’importance de voir au-delà des apparences et de toujours nourrir l’espoir.

On the Hunt for the Special Wild Cherry Tree

Émerise has an uncommon name. Her father gave it to her because, he says, she is as special as a little wild cherry tree. One autumn day, the young girl ventures into the forest on the hunt for this tree that resembles her. She is severely disappointed to discover a sickly, colourless, bare tree! But the next spring, when she visits it again, she is amazed by what she sees. What happened to the tree that made it change so drastically? 

More than a simple quest for the origin of a name, this story reminds us of the importance of seeing beyond appearances and always nourishing hope.
